Contemplative Pedagogy

Comtemp

Contemplative pedagogy is a set of methods which emphasize reflection and metacognition among students to improve learning. A good resource for training and information is the Association for Contemplative Mind in Higher Education, which has a yearly conference, a summer training workshop, and a variety of other opportunities and resources.

To help my physiology students remember that all this physiology is going on inside their bodies, too– and to help them see the big picture of each physiological system– I’ve recorded short audio podcasts, sort of innerspace journeys into physiological systems, that I as a group I call InsideOut Physiology. There are “episodes” on breathing, internal respiration, muscle physiology, and two on hormones. If you teach any of these topics, you are welcome to share them with your students.
